Shelvie Jean Long, age 78, passed away on April 22, 2026, in Celina, Tennessee. She was born on March 31, 1948, in Cumberland, Kentucky, and lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and quiet strength. She was known to those who loved her as a friendly, intelligent, and loving woman whose presence brought comfort and warmth to her family and friends.
Shevie spent her life as a homemaker and factory worker, and she carried herself with dignity in every role she filled. She understood the value of hard work and the importance of caring for others, and she gave generously of herself throughout her life. Her steady nature and thoughtful spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
She found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. She loved gardening and flowers, and she took pleasure in shopping and jewelry. These interests reflected her appreciation for beauty, detail, and the little moments that made life special. Her faith in the Church of Christ was an important part of her life, and it guided her with comfort and purpose through the years.
She is survived by her daughter, Anna Long of Cookeville, Tennessee; her sister, Carolyn Tomes of Boiling Green, Kentucky; and a loving family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward. Her grandchildren include Lindsey (Tony) Cecil of Gamaliel, Kentucky; Marty Wright-Blakley (John) of Moss, Tennessee; Ryan Blakley of Celina, Tennessee; Rebecca Kinney of Celina, Tennessee; Jordan Kinney of Celina, Tennessee; Brookelynn Qualls of Cookeville, Tennessee; Madelynn Qualls of Cookeville, Tennessee; and Lonnie Qualls of Cookeville, Tennessee. She also leaves behind many cherished great-grandchildren, including Aaliyah Collins, Kooper Kinney, Kinleigh Collins, Wrenlee Collins, Knox Collins, Julianna Hagan, Clay Cecil, Olivia Cecil, Taylor Wright-Blakley, Harley Wright-Blakley, Hylee Wright-Blakley, and Landon Wright-Blakley.
Shelvie Jean Long will be remembered for the love she gave so freely and the gentle way she touched the lives of those around her. Her family will remember her for her encouraging words, her caring heart, and the strength she showed in both good times and difficult ones. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion that will continue to live on in the hearts of her family. Though her earthly journey has ended, the memory of Shelvie Jean Long will remain a blessing to all who knew her. Her life was a reflection of steadfast love and enduring faith, and her influence will be felt for generations to come. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives she enriched.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Clay County Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Clay County Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Roach-Short Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to help with funeral expenses.
