James Douglas Spears, 68, a lifelong resident of Celina, Tennessee, passed away on March 16, 2026, in Livingston, Tennessee. Born on March 13, 1958, James's life was marked by his deep roots in the community and the lasting impact he had on all who knew him.
James is survived by his loving daughters Brittany (Billy, Jr.) Smith of Hilham, Tennessee; Whittney Smith of Tennessee; and Kelly Kemp of Tennessee. He held a cherished place in the hearts of his grandchildren: Natalie Smith, Isabella Smith, Arianna Hall, Billy Smith, III, Sophia Smith, Kenzlee Smith, and Grayson Smith, all of Hilham, Tennessee. His sister, Catherine Goolsby of Celina, Tennessee, remains a close family anchor. Niece; Angela Spears, nephew; Steven Spears. Also surviving are his best friend, Michael Spears, and his special friend, Becky Smith of Celina, who provided companionship and support for many years.
James was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Rodney Spears and Marvin Denzel.
Throughout his life, James Douglas Spears was known for his unwavering dedication to his family and friends, his warm spirit, and his steadfast presence in the community. His legacy will continue through the loving remembrance of those he leaves behind. The community is invited to gather and pay respects, celebrating a life well-lived and the enduring bonds he forged.
A visitation to honor and remember James will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 9:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the Clay County Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. Eugene Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Pricetown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to help assist with funeral expense by contacting the funeral home.
